Red & Black

Red & Black is my first experimental artist book, created as a project for one of my art classes.

For the cover, I wanted to transform everyday materials into part of the book itself. I used an old pair of black pants and a red belt, which I cut, trimmed, and sewed to fit the size and shape of the book. The belt remains fully functional and serves as the book's closure—you have to unfasten it to open the book, just as you would unfasten a belt when opening a pair of pants.

The content of the book is mostly abstract and experimental, with red and black serving as the main colors and the only consistent rule throughout the work. I created the pages by cutting and carving paper with an X-Acto knife and assembling different layers and shapes with staples. I also experimented with colored pencils, inks, and acrylic paint to create the illustrations, textures, and compositions throughout the book.
